Review households

See each household's members, engagement, and activity, find the families who need attention, and export a list for follow-up.

The Households view shows one row for each household synced from Planning Center, with its members grouped as parents or guardians, children, and other adults. Use it when you want to follow up with a family rather than with one person.

Open Records → Households in the sidebar, or switch from All people to Households at the top of People. Households appear after your first Planning Center sync. If the list is empty, see Understand sync progress.

Read the table

ColumnWhat it shows
HouseholdThe household name and its members. Hover to preview members, campus, and last activity.
Primary contactThe household's primary contact from Planning Center.
Total membersEveryone in the household.
Parents / guardians, Children, Other adultsThe members in each role.
EngagementThe household's engagement tier. Not scored means no member currently has a score that counts toward the household, for example because every member is inactive.
Needs attentionThe most serious warning light among the household's members.
Giving YTDYear-to-date household giving and the change from last year. Requires Full giving access.
Last activityThe most recent activity of any member.

The Needs attention column uses the engagement warning lights: Urgent, Needs attention, Lapsed, Dormant, Healthy, New, and No data. New can appear in the column but is not offered as a filter. A household shows the worst light among its members, so one member who has stopped attending is enough to flag the household. See Warning lights for how each light is set.

By default the view is sorted by Needs attention, so the households most in need of a conversation come first. Select Sorted by to sort by Household name, Engagement, Last activity, or Giving YTD instead, in ascending or descending order.

Find the households you need

Select the filter button and choose an attribute:

  • Household name searches by name.
  • Needs attention shows households with a particular warning light.
  • Engagement shows households at a particular engagement tier.
  • Campus appears when your church has more than one campus.

Sort and filters are saved in the page address, so you can bookmark or share a filtered view. A teammate sees the same households only if their own access allows it.

Open a household

Select a household to open its panel. The panel shows:

  • Primary contact, Members, Campus, and Last activity.
  • Giving YTD, when your giving access allows it.
  • A note naming the member behind a warning light and their last activity.
  • Members, with links to each person's profile.
  • Recent activity across the household.

Use the Previous household and Next household arrows to step through the list without closing the panel. When you open a person's profile from the panel, its back link returns you to Households with your filters intact. See Read a person profile for the profile itself.

Comment on a household

Open Comments from a household's hover preview, or from the page header for all household comments. Reply in a thread, react, edit, or Resolve a comment once its follow-up is done.

Choose your columns

  • Select Add column to show a hidden column. View settings lets you change the whole view at once.
  • Open a column's menu to move it left or right, select Edit column label, change how dates are shown, or select Hide from view.
  • Select Add calculation under a column to show a summary such as Total members, Average giving, or Healthy households. Calculations use only the rows loaded so far, as the footer notes. Scroll to the end of the list before relying on a total for a large view.

Column choices are saved in your browser, so they follow you on the same device but not to another one.

Export households

  1. Filter the view to the households you want.
  2. Check the households to export, or check the header box to select every household that matches your filters, including ones not yet loaded.
  3. Select Export CSV in the selection bar.

The CSV includes each household's members, engagement tier, warning light, campus, and last activity. Giving columns are included only when you have Full giving access. Changing a filter clears your selection, so set your filters before you start selecting.

Giving and access

Household giving uses the same permissions as individual giving, because a one-adult household's giving is that person's giving.

Giving accessWhat you see in Households
FullThe Giving YTD column, giving sort, giving calculations, and giving in the CSV.
SummaryThe household giving total in the hover preview, and when gifts occurred in recent activity. The table column is hidden.
NoneNo giving information.

See Access, roles, and giving permissions to check or change your access.
